Success Story: ज्योति और सत्या दिल्ली में रहने वाला कपल है। उन्‍हें अपने स्वादिष्ट डोसे के लिए जाना जाता है। 2012 में उन्होंने ‘डोसा इंक.’ नाम का अपना फूड ट्रक शुरू किया। यह जल्द ही शहर में लोकप्रिय हो गया।

दोनों को खाना बनाने का जुनून
ज्योति ने अमेरिका के नॉक्स कॉलेज से ग्रेजुएशन के बाद ह्यूमन रिसोर्स मैनेजमेंट में मास्टर डिग्री पूरी की। इसके बाद वह अपने पिता की लॉजिस्टिक्स और सप्‍लाई चेन कंपनी से जुड़ गईं। सत्या के पास टेलीकॉम में मास्टर डिग्री है। उनका सिलिकॉन वैली और भारत में स्टार्ट-अप में काम करने का एक दशक का लंबा अनुभव रहा है। कई सालों तक कॉर्पोरेट क्षेत्र में काम करने के बाद दोनों ने अपना बिजनेस शुरू करने का फैसला किया। दिल्‍ली के रहने वाले सत्‍या और ज्‍योति को खाना बनाने का जुनून है। साउथ इंडियन खाना उन्‍हें खासतौर से पसंद है। खाने के प्रति इसी प्‍यार को देखते हुए उन्‍होंने 2012 में डोसा इंक की शुरुआत की थी।

छोटी थी शुरुआत
ज्योति जब अपने ऑफिस के आखिरी दिन साथियों को बता रहीं थीं क‍ि वो नया बिजनेस शुरू कर रही हैं तो बेहद उत्‍साहित थीं। अलकनंदा में जब दोनों फूड ट्रक के साथ अपनी जगह पर पहुंचे तो उनके अंदर अलग ही उत्साह था। उनका रेस्टोरेंट खोलने का सपना आखिरकार पूरा होने जा रहा था। 30 किलो डोसा बैटर का इस्तेमाल करते हुए उन्होंने अगले तीन घंटों में अपने सारे मेदु वड़ा बेच डाले थे।

10 लाख रुपये का किया निवेश
कपल ने ट्रक और जरूरी रसोई की चीजें खरीदने के लिए 10 लाख रुपये का निवेश किया। लेकिन, फूड ट्रक स्थापित करना सिर्फ स्‍वादिष्‍ट रेसिपी बनाने से कहीं ज्‍यादा है। वाहन की देखभाल करना भोजन जितना ही महत्वपूर्ण है। शुरुआत में उन्होंने एक टेम्पो ट्रैवलर खरीदा। लेकिन, जल्द ही उन्हें एहसास हुआ कि यह भारी है। इसमें भारी उपकरण नहीं रखे जा सकते। लिहाजा, उन्होंने CNG से चलने वाला TATA Ace खरीदा। यह ट्रक पर्यावरण अनुकूल था। साथ ही गुरुग्राम और नोएडा की सीमा पार करते समय उन्हें ग्रीन फीस नहीं देनी पड़ती थी।

पिछले कुछ सालों में जबरदस्‍त ग्रोथ
कपल ने फूड डिलीवरी ऐप के आने से पहले फूड ट्रक की शुरुआत की थी। तब लोग ऑनलाइन कुछ भी ऑर्डर करने को लेकर बहुत खुले नहीं थे। यही कारण है कि दोनों ने डायरेक्ट मार्केटिंग के साथ पुराने तरीके को चुना। उन्होंने खास इलाकों में पैम्फलेट बांटे जिनमें मेन्यू और उनके आने की तारीख और समय लिखा होता था। धीरे-धीरे उन्‍होंने कस्‍टमर बेस तैयार किया।

इसके बाद सत्या और ज्योति ने अगले कुछ सालों में सामाजिक समारोहों और मैराथन कार्यक्रमों से लेकर कॉर्पोरेट शो तक के नए क्षेत्रों में कदम रखा। उन्होंने मुरुकू, साउथ इंडियन मिक्सचर, लड्डू, मैसूर पाक, नारियल बर्फी आदि जैसे स्नैक्स लॉन्च किए। इनसे लॉकडाउन के दौरान भी रेवेन्‍यू प्राप्त हुआ। आज उन्‍हें फूड ट्रक बिजनेस से सालाना करीब 3 करोड़ रुपये की कमाई होती है।

The beginning was small
Jyoti was very excited when she was telling her colleagues on the last day of her office that she was starting a new business. When both of them reached their place with the food truck in Alaknanda, there was a different kind of enthusiasm inside them. Their dream of opening a restaurant was finally going to be fulfilled. Using 30 kg of dosa batter, they sold out all their medu vadas in the next three hours.

Invested Rs 10 lakh
The couple invested Rs 10 lakh to buy a truck and kitchen essentials. But, setting up a food truck is more than just making delicious recipes. Taking care of the vehicle is as important as the food. Initially, they bought a tempo traveller. But, they soon realised that it was heavy and couldn’t carry heavy equipment. So, they bought a CNG-powered TATA Ace. This truck was eco-friendly and also saved them from paying green fees while crossing the borders of Gurugram and Noida.Success Story

Strong growth in the last few years
The couple started the food truck before the advent of food delivery apps. Back then, people were not very open to ordering anything online. That’s why the two opted for the old-fashioned way with direct marketing. They distributed pamphlets in specific areas with the menu and the date and time of their arrival. Gradually they built a customer base.

After this, Satya and Jyoti ventured into new areas from social gatherings and marathon events to corporate shows in the next few years. They launched snacks like Muruku, South Indian Mixture, Laddu, Mysore Pak, Coconut Barfi etc. These generated revenue even during the lockdown. Today they earn around Rs 3 crore annually from the food truck business.
